I have a question for you.
As a photographer who’s been on tumblr/facebook/flickr/ect… for years, it’s not uncommon that I see my work popping up in my dash, re-edited and with someone else’s watermark on it. I’m sure this happens to you, as well, since I’ve also seen it happen to people such as Adam Elmakias, Ashley Osborn and Anthony Gattine. My question is, how do you deal with things like that?
When I was first starting out and I’d see someone repost my photo without credit and/or the watermark cropped out, I’d get furious. But then again, I was also 18 immature, self-conscious and still figuring myself out.
Now, I can’t decide if it’s flattering or obnoxious. Because on one hand, I’m really happy that someone enjoyed my work so much to make their own “edit” of it, but on the other, it’s a little frustrating because I spend my time and money shooting these shows and artists, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a little credit where credit is due.
So, do you message said people, kindly asking them to please credit your work, or do you brush it off because more than likely, it’s just a 16 year old girl who really loves Sleeping With Sirens and doesn’t understand that what she’s doing is a little rude?
I’d love to hear thoughts on this, as I’m kind of on the fence, so what’s your opinion?
